Make a Mobile!
Mobiles are great, because you can personalize them! Make them out of anything you enjoy, from natural objects like seashells, acorns, and pinecones to objects like baseball cards, soda cans, stamps, and arcade prizes.
YOU WILL NEED:
- Paint and a brush (optional)
- Newspaper
- At least six related items
- Glue
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Narrow ribbon or string (optional)
- Two foot-long dowels (smooth sticks of wood
HERE IS WHAT YOU DO:
- Cover your worktable with newspaper.
- Paint your dowels in whatever color you choose. Let them dry. If you prefer, leave the natural wood.
- Tie the centers of the dowels together with yarn to form an "X."
- Cut the ribbon or yarn into four 8-inch pieces, and cut a few pieces of different lengths.
- Make a small hole in each item with a hole-punch or a pencil. Thread an 8-inch ribbon through the hole and tie a knot. Now tie the other end to one end of the dowel "X." Repeat with the other 8-inch pieces until all four corners of the "X" are full. Now attach a few other items onto the empty parts of the dowels.
- If the item is too hard to make a hole in, and it’s impossible to tie the ribbon any other way, glue one end of each ribbon to the object and let dry for at least 6-8 hours to be sure it is completely dry. Then tie it onto the dowel "X."
- Tie a string to the center of the mobile to hang.
